Education

  • J.D., Vanderbilt University, 1997
  • B.A., Stanford University, 1994

Gordy Woolbert primarily practices commercial law, business law, and civil litigation, and is an active member of these practice groups. Though he handles many types of litigation matters, he focuses his practice on business litigation and commercial disputes, including trade secrets litigation, restrictive covenants litigation, and shareholder disputes, as well as breach of contract and fraud cases. In addition to these types of matters, Gordy has successfully represented fiduciaries in interference-with-expectancy cases; developers on contested zoning issues; bankruptcy trustees in fraudulent-conveyance actions; officers in securities fraud litigation; and various types of employers in employment matters, including employment discrimination matters. The breadth of Gordy’s litigation experience has made him adept in a variety of advocacy contexts, including administrative hearings, commercial arbitrations, jury trials, and appeals. Through his experience, he has gained proficiency in cases involving e-discovery, confidential information, and pending and potential criminal investigations.

Although the vast majority of Gordy’s practice now consists of litigation, his practice is not limited to litigation. Drawing on his litigation experience, Gordy has also represented a number of businesses, as well as their owners and officers, in a variety of transactional matters, including the negotiation of complex executive compensation agreements, the drafting of substantial supplier agreements, and the coordination of the purchase and sale of various types of businesses.

Gordy received his B.A. in Economics from Stanford University and his J.D. from the Vanderbilt University School of Law. While at Vanderbilt, he earned The Stanley D. Rose Memorial Book Award for excellence in legal writing. At Stanford he was a member of a national championship swim team, the Stanford Economics Association, and Campus Crusade for Christ.
