Black McCuskey Law Firm Names Two Partners

(July 2011) – Black McCuskey is pleased to announce that attorneys Robert J. Murphy and Robert B. Preston III have been named shareholders and directors of the firm.

Robert Murphy has practiced law since 2004 and focuses his practice in corporate and real estate transactions. He represents small, mid-size and large companies in the areas of negotiation and documentation of business transactions and real estate acquisitions, development and construction. He has worked with clients ranging in size from publicly traded industry leading corporations, to mid-size closely held companies, to single member entities and individuals on a broad range of corporate transactions and real estate projects.

Robert received his Juris Doctor Degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, graduating magna cum laude. In addition, he is co-chair of the firm’s real estate practice group and is certified as a LEED AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional) in new construction by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). With this accreditation, Robert is certified regarding green building practices and principles, and familiar with LEED requirements, resources and processes.

Additionally, Robert is a graduate of Leadership Stark County and vice-chair of the Pike Township Zoning Commission. In 2010, he was selected as one of 20 outstanding leaders under the age of 40 in the greater Canton area. Murphy is a native of Canton and a graduate of Central Catholic High School. He is the immediate past chairman of the executive committee for ystark! (the network for young professionals in the greater Canton Area) and president of the Central Catholic Alumni Association.

Bob Preston focuses his practice in the areas of civil litigation, construction and creditors’ rights/collections. He graduated magna cum laude from The University of Akron School of Law. Since joining the firm, Bob is very active in the litigation practice area and construction practice groups. He has represented clients in litigation in more than one fourth of Ohio’s Common Pleas Courts and both of Ohio’s Federal District Courts. He has also appeared and argued numerous matters in Ohio’s Fifth, Tenth and Eighth Appellate Districts.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Bob had a long career in public service. He was a patrolman and sergeant with the Cleveland Police Department from 1995-2004, and a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina from 1991-1995. For his bravery as a police officer, he was honored with the Medal of Heroism and the Distinguished Service Medal.

Active in his community, Bob is a board member of the East Central Ohio Building Industry Association and president of the Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities. He is a member of the Ohio and Stark County Bar Associations, and vice president of the Tuscarawas County Bar Association. In 2007, he was appointed outside counsel for collections by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Additionally, Bob was named one of the outstanding business leaders, under the age of 40, in the Tuscarawas Valley, and he is a graduate of the 5th class of Leadership Tuscarawas County.
