New Ruling by NLRB Regarding Workplace Email

On December 11, 2014, a divided National Labor Relations Board held Thursday that workers have a right to use their employers’ email systems for non-business purposes including communicating about union organizing, overruling the labor board’s 2007 Register Guard ruling and calling it “clearly incorrect.”

The majority called their decision “carefully limited.”  They noted that it applies only to workers who have already been granted access to their employer’s email system.
